Ultrasound imaging, also called sonography, is a noninvasive test that helps physicians diagnose and treat medical conditions. It involves exposing part of the body to high-frequency sound waves to construct an image of structures inside of the body. An ultrasound can show the structure and movement of the body’s internal organs, as well as blood flowing through blood vessels.

The sonographer applies a conductive gel to the body, and presses a transducer against the skin. This is a small, hand-held device that converts sound waves into images that can be seen on a monitor.

The Ultrasound Department at Primary Care Associates of Appleton is accredited by the American College of Radiology and all ultrasound tests are read by a licensed Radiologist on-site. To learn more about ultrasound imaging, visit RadiologyInfo.org.
